There are times when running Windows 7 you will need to run a program with higher permissions than you have via your login. This has been done in the past on Windows XP Professional by right clicking an icon and selecting “Run As administrator” after installing some management tools.
Windows 7 Run As Different User is even easier, if you know where to look.
(I use Windows 7 Professional or, on rare occasion, Ultimate – I have never been a big fan of limited capability operating system versions)
Normally if you right click a Windows 7 icon you will see “Run As Administrator”. But that is a MACHINE administrator, not a domain administrator for those of you in an office environment using a Windows Active Directory Domain.
I tried an add-in program that was supposed to work, but it didn’t; perhaps because I tried it on a 64 bit Windows 7 Professional PC. (Another frustration of multiple version OS’es)
Turns out, SHIFT-RIGHT-CLICK the icon and see if you do not see “Run As Different User”. Try it. Then the next time you need to run as administrator or other user, just right click without the shift and see if the option is already there.
Googling this topic did not find the answer for me, so I thought I would post it here.
