While it was not a high priority for me, I have wanted a free voice recorder for my Android phone, and naturally you need a free MP3 converter to go along with it.
Today I found both.
VirtualRecorder actually led me to the free MP3 converter FreeMP3Droid.
VirtualRecorder will automatically save every recording with a unique date-time stamp in a standard format. Navigate to the recording and longpress it will give you the option to convert to MP3 if you have the FreeMP3Droid app installed also. That gets stored in its own directory.
Want to save to a ringtone? Easy, that goes in the ringtones directory.
Pitch is adjustable, there is a boost and a limiter option for spikes. Other than that every is pretty much set. There is an option you can turn on to automatically prompt you to enter a filename.
Background, clandestine operation
The kind of cool thing is that it picks up voice so well you can have it near your mouth or on the desk, whatever, and it records clearly.
Start the recorder and then press the power/screen-off button on the Droid X and the recorder keeps recording! Careful how you use that, but I can see making it look like you are finishing something on your phone and putting it back on the belt holder but in reality it is recording the conversation you are having with someone…
Does NOT record phone calls.
Kind of surprised a voice recorder app did not come with the Android phones, but VirtualRecorder, especially with the FreeMP3Droid app, looks like a good solution.
(As you can see, it is ad supported, but they don’t get in the way and are not obtrusive)
