Android VPN To Fortinet Firewall

In Search Of VPN App for Android

I like to keep my network secure, so I have a quality, true firewall from Fortinet protecting my network and allow access through very few open ports, opting instead for remote access via secure IPSec VPN.

Previously with my Windows Mobile device I used the FortiMobile application by Fortinet. Unfortunately and unbelievably, Fortinet has yet to release a version for iPhone or Android – what ARE they waiting for, to see if those platforms are adopted and survive? – Right!

The alternative to an App right now is to create an L2TP VPN, which Android supports – but get this – you have to enter your (long, complex, including special characters) password each time!

Creating the L2TP VPN is anything but simple, and Fortinet Support is (IMHO) really dropping the ball helping me on this. How I long for the old days when Fortinet was a young company.

This post helped more than anything, but he is using FortiOS 4 and I have version 3. What I don’t like about Fortinet is that many commands are not backward compatible between versions.

So for now I am stuck with workarounds and open / forwarded ports that I would much rather keep closed.

I may try PPTP, but I imagine I will have the same P.I.T.A. of having to enter the password each time I want to connect.

I will post more info here as it becomes known…

Will IPsec work with Android?. I setup IPsec to get DNS working on the ipda with fortigate.

But i can’t get android working with IPsec or PPTP (no dns)

Fortigate say use the Cisco app. What cisco app?

I’ve heard rumors, but cannot find any Cisco VPN Android app.

I think Fortinet has gotten lazy.

Irks me to no end to see their stock IPO up 150% (no, I didn’t buy…) when their support (IMHO) is LOUSY, especially compared to their early days when they actually wanted to help you and not just get rid of you and close the ticket.

Thanks for the heads up. I see two different versions, one for Samsung devices and one for a rooted device (which I have). Requires Tun.ko

Not clear if it will work with Fortinet; says requires license and AnyConnect
