Cisco Sells LinkSys To Belkin

I just read this morning on Yahoo! news that Cisco is selling LinkSys to Belkin. (No link is provided because Yahoo! links go dead.)

Cisco Systems Inc. agreed to sell its home-networking business, including the well-known Linksys brand, to Belkin International Inc., as it continues to retrench around its core business of selling technology to businesses.

Terms of the deal, which is expected to close in March, weren’t disclosed.

The San Jose, Calif. based Cisco acquired LinkSys in 2003 for $500 million as part of an effort to address consumers. Why Cisco thought that they would be good at dealing with the average non-tech consumer is beyond me.
