Free Pandora Does Not Understand Advertising
Free Pandora is subject to ads; that’s how it works, everyone knows the scoop, that’s all good.
Why, though, would a company like Pandora choose to anger listeners by barraging them with the EXACT SAME AD every 4 or 5 songs?
What does that gain Pandora?
What does that gain Pandora advertisers?
Do you buy from someone who drives you nuts?
A few months ago I decided to give free Pandora a try as I worked, and for the most part I liked it. If I tried to skip too many songs, I got slapped with an ad. Sometimes an ad played anyway.
Then recently I started getting the SAME ad every so often from Telluride. To this day I don’t know who Telluride is or what they do. Their commercials annoy me so I don’t want to know.
But the last few days I have been simply barraged, nay, tortured with the same movie ad EVERY 5 songs!
Now if your goal is to entice, and sell, then intrigue.
That catchy line from the movie that is funny the first time, humorous the second is annoying by the tenth time. And since that is the ONLY line I hear I am inclined to think, based on past experience, that it is the ONLY funny line in the movie.
- So if you want to sell with ads, don’t p!ss off the customer
- If you want to play an ad for the same movie, create more than one ad; mix it up
- Give your listener a break by inserting other ads from time to time, and not just a recent Telluride ad
If you advertise via Pandora, I hope you are carefully analyzing the return on your investment. With this “Not Fade Away” movie ad, there is no way for the advertiser to analyze anything and thus it’s a waste of money. Don’t trust me, ask advertising great Jay Abraham.
Free Pandora is driving me crazy and I am TURNING IT OFF.
There are other alternatives including my own music on my own server played with Media Monkey. I just thought I would “mix it up” a bit. Turns out, Pandora doesn’t know how to do that very well.
