High Quality USB 3.0/2.0 External Hard Drive
The Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Desk USB 3.0 External Hard Drive is my current choice when in need of an external USB hard drive. I did an earlier Seagate GoFlex review but wanted to update it and add a video.
I have bought several for myself and my family.
The drive is available in various sizes up to 4TB.
Seagate uses a high quality, 7200rpm (fast) hard drive and puts it in a decent enclosure, then slaps on a 2 year warranty. Most USB hard drives have slow, cheap hard drives and only offer a 1 year warranty.
When it comes to a hard drive, unless it is ONLY for backing up another high quality media, why would you want something “cheap”?
Inexpensive, sure, but with hard drives you get what you pay for.
Seagate FreeAgent GoFlex Features
- PC or Mac (Use interchangeably)
- Fast, quality hard drive (mentioned above)
- Front indicator lights to show activity and utilization of drive
- No on/off switch
- Software configurable “sleep” option
- Easy to use, simple software that is NOT required for use
- Easy-to-use pre-loaded backup software with encryption
- USB 3.0 with USB 2.0 compatibility
- USB 3.0 cable only, standard USB cable will not fit
- 2 Year Warranty (also mentioned above)
Make special note above that this drive can be used with PC’s and Macs interchangeably with the included NTFS driver for Mac. You can also encrypt the data with included software in case the drive is lost or stolen.
This is quite a versatile drive, with high quality and high performance.
I have been using mine to backup my Netgear ReadyNAS servers that I am storing rips of all of our family videos (see my post on converting VHS to DVD, but I have also been ripping miniDV’s).
