TRENDnet IP Network Camera – PoE or WiFi
I have long been using the Axis Network Cameras for surveillance and security and been happy for the most part. Unfortunately, several of these cameras have been failing recently and Axis offers only a 1 year warranty.
This TRENDnet IP Camera boasts a 3 year warranty and it’s just a little more than half the price and with more features to boot.
The reason I wanted to do a box opening review video was so that you could see what this product includes and get some basic info to start your decision making process.
Power Over Ethernet
One of the things that concerned me about the marketing for this TRENDnet TV-IP572PI (the PI designates the PoE version, WI has wireless and 10/100 but no PoE capability) was the emphasis on the PoE and the lack of need for a power outlet.
So I wondered, at this price, does it not INCLUDE a power adapter?
Well, as you can see in the video, yes it DOES include a power adapter in case you do not want to use the PoE functionality.

We will see on future videos how to configure this camera, evaluate its performance and maybe even do some side by side comparisons with Axis network IP cameras.
Personally I am anxious to try out the “Night Vision” feature of this camera. The Axis M-1031W that I use has an LED that lights up on motion, but the time delay between activity and the light coming on could easily be the difference between useful surveillance footage and worthless bits and bytes.

Update:
Night Vision Performance Of TrendNet IP Camera
The TRENDnet Megapixel PoE Day-Night Internet Camera TV- IP572PI that I have several of running surveillance for me at a house have so far performed admirably.
Here is a screenshoot from my Android smartphone of a lower level room in the house in complete pitch dark. No lights on in the room and no outside light coming in the windows as it was taken at night time.
This camera is actually just setting on the floor, mounted on a small piece of wood; it’s portable so I can set it anywhere and either connect it to the network with a patch cable or wirelessly.
These cameras so far are performing just as well as the more expensive Axis cameras (that I just had ANOTHER one fail on me, and it was a $1000+ camera) at half the price.
PLUS I am getting night vision performance meaning I do NOT have to leave on a light. The motion triggered LED on the Axis cameras does pretty well but it can be slow to come on to full brightness and have the iris respond, meaning you can miss valuable frames and possibly miss a good shot of an intruder altogether.

Roger.
you have any outside daytime shots? I want to setup one as a weather camera.

With an outdoor temp limitation of 32F – 104F, I don’t use these outside (it’s getting down into the teens right now there).
If I wanted outdoor I would probably “do it right” with an TV-IP322P outdoor camera – though it’s much more expensive naturally.
