How To Boot Into Recovery On Droid X

yellow-exclamation-android-boot-stuck-recoveryYou need to know how to boot into recovery on your Android smartphone; this is for my Droid X but others should be similar.

In addition, I have at times inadvertently gotten into recovery even without pressing the convoluted key combination and thought I was “stuck” at the yellow exclamation symbol seen at left.

Try pressing the ‘search’ button just in case you are merely in the process of getting into the stock Motorola recovery mode.

Note, I recommend ClockWorkMod for recovery on Android Phones.

But just so you know, here is how to boot into recovery on a Droid X and probably many other Motorola Android smartphones as well.

  1. Turn your phone off.
  2. Hold down “Home” button and press the “Power” button until the Motorola logo appears.
  3. Release the  “Power” button and continue to hold “Home” until an exclamation symbol appears, similar to the image above/left.
  4. Release the “Home” button and press the “Search” button once.
  5. Your phone will now enter the Motorola Android recovery menu.

To get out of Recovery, simply press your volume up and down buttons until “reboot system now” is highlighted and then press the camera button.

You can never know too much about your Android Mobile device. Bookmark this page.

I am “stuck” at the yellow exclamation symbol seen above. My phone froze up after downloading the new software update yesterday. I tried doing what you suggested above but it won’t budge. any ideas?

The software update likely makes it a different issue.

If you have backup of any data, you could flash an SBF file, which is essentially an “image” of what the phone looks like factory clean. I did that once and it wasn’t too bad, but I had a Titanium Backup on SD for what I did not want to lose.

Best to see the experts, try here:

Keep in mind that’s the Droid X forum, if you have a different model be sure and hit the right sub forum. There are people there that are expert in these things and will even tell you to PM (private message) them if you have brick’d your phone and need help.

The software update probably went awry.

Head to the droidxforums and there are likely threads on that going already.

With VZW phones have to hit the vol up and vol down at the same time to get the menu. Also, use the power button to select and the vol up and down to navigate the menu.

    Hope it helps.

With my Droid X I had to use the power button as the selecting button.

I agree with Tim, I had to hold both volume controls at the same time. That will open up the menu. I also agree with RW, once you select what you want (using the volume up or down) hit the power button to make your selection.

      That’s weird.

If I press the power button the screen goes black. Press it again and it comes back on.

Only the Camera button works for me.
